Natural Ways to Get Rid of Intestinal Parasites

There are many different types of intestinal parasites, also known as worms. These can generally cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, gas and bloating, fatigue, unexplained weight loss, and abdominal pain or tenderness. Intestinal parasites pass through your digestive system and are eliminated from your body in your stool. Even if you don't have any symptoms, you may notice the parasites in your stool. Most intestinal worm infections cause only mild illness and can be treated with medication. So, what are the natural ways to get rid of intestinal parasites?

5 Natural Ways to Get Rid of Intestinal Worms

There's evidence that a diet rich in vitamin A, selenium, and zinc may improve the body's natural defenses against parasitic infection. Research indicates that some plants may contain compounds that can be developed into plant-based medications for treating and clearing parasites. If you already have intestinal worms, you can try the following to clear the parasites:

Pumpkin Seed Oil: Pumpkin seeds are rich in amino acids and fatty acids. Amino acids such as berberine, cucurbitacin, and palmatine are known for their effectiveness against certain types of parasites. A limited study indicates that pumpkin seed extracts reduce parasite populations. The United States Pharmacopeia listed pumpkin seeds as a treatment for intestinal parasites from 1863 to 1936.

Wormwood: Limited research on wormwood has shown that an extract from wormwood kills adult tapeworms and their eggs. Many parasite medications are also made from compounds derived from wormwood. However, more research is needed to determine the effectiveness of the plant itself in eliminating intestinal worms.

Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is a popular home remedy for pinworms, as many people believe that applying the oil around the anal area can prevent females from laying eggs there. Some individuals also drink a teaspoon of pure coconut oil every morning. This is considered safe for people to try, as long as they are not allergic to the oil.

Chamomile seeds: Chamomile seeds, or extracts and/or teas made from them, may help clear intestinal parasites. While some limited studies suggest that chamomile seeds may treat some intestinal worm infections, more research is needed.

Thyme Tea: A very limited study shows that thyme oil eliminates intestinal parasites. Another study found that 14 adult patients with enteric parasites, including Blastocystis hominis, Entamoeba hartmanni, and Endolimax nana, were completely eliminated in their stools after a six-week treatment with thyme oil. Four patients had Entamoeba hartmanni, one had Endolimax nana, and eight had Blastocystis hominis. Since ancient times, thyme has been used for its healing properties. Research confirms that thyme tea is a beneficial beverage for many reasons. Some of the nutrients found in thyme tea include vitamins A, C, and K, as well as minerals such as iron, magnesium, and calcium. Thyme tea may also help treat certain infections, as well as parasites.

In addition, during the parasite cleanse, it may be recommended to follow a balanced diet high in nutrients but low in refined sugar and processed foods. Consuming fiber-rich foods is particularly important, as it helps maintain regular bowel movements.

After a cleanse, you may be advised to avoid eating raw or undercooked meat and seafood to prevent reinfection. Additionally, unbottled or untreated water, ice, and food purchased from street vendors can also pose a risk of intestinal parasites.
